Hartford Movers

How Do You Build a Worldwide Moving and Storage Company? One Generation at a Time.

In three generations, the Mooney family of Connecticut has built a Connecticut moving company with a reputation for quality; a commitment to service; and the ability to move your home, your business or your products around the corner or around the globe. With each generation, Hartford Despatch has pioneered more efficient and more customer-oriented ways of doing business. Today, our business is global in scope. But, we continue to conduct it the way we always have one customer at a time.

  • Hartford Despatch completes more than 4,500 moves annually, including nearly 500 international moves.
  • Our drivers log more than 1.8 million miles, with outstanding safety records.
  • Our cargo claims consistently rate well below the industry average.
  • We offer 178,000 square feet of space for storage of commercial and household goods. Racked, floor, room, vaulted, fire resistant, safe

1990s

We serve as a distribution hub for several national retailers. Hartford Despatch continues to be a steady, reliable agent for domestic relocations and an independent provider of worldwide moving and storage services.

1980s

In 1988, Anson Mooney became the third generation to lead Hartford Despatch.

1970s

The Connecticut moving company's freight operations had grown to five cities and it ran a "round the clock" distribution service. Robert Mooney helped charter Allied Van Lines International during this decade.

1960s

Robert K. Mooney, the second generation, took over the helm. He initiated a large break bulk and pool distribution operation, with facilities throughout New England. Hartford Despatch began to cater to national retailers, offering distribution, warehousing and dedicated fleet runs for disbursement of products throughout New England.

1940s

During World Wars I and II, the company earned a reputation for providing claim-free storage, and introduced consumer services such as a transit vault system and mothproofing for rugs and sofas.

The Early Years

The Early Years Founded in 1906 as a trucking firm, Hartford Despatch provided one of the first daily runs of freight and household goods to Boston and New York from Hartford. E.G. Mooney purchased the company in 1918.

Mooney built the first public warehouse in East Hartford in 1920. Eight years later, he was instrumental in chartering Allied Van Lines, the first national network of moving companies.
